Nice ideas for “beat-building.” However, the notation is incorrect compared to what was demonstrated. As written, the first exercise has the riding eight notes played on the ride, the second has the ride notes played on a crash cymbal. Hi-hat notes are conventionally written ON the top staff line, not resting on the line, and the notation ABOVE the top staff line, with the extra cross line, indicates a crash cymbal.
