I was so bad they moved me to tenor, then base and finally out. So here I am about to turn 70, working on my bucket list and rock drumming happens to be on it. It a fascinating hobby, and it actually seems easier now that I am free to practice as much as I like. (Try doing that in a tenement apartment.) Carmine’s video is the first time I heard of “linear” drumming. I thought you ALWAYS hit the bass and something else at the same time! It sounds so cool and looks easy when Carmine does it. I ordered his book and look forward to learning “linearly”.

A pro myself with credits, I found that Carmine’s teaching approach would either draw the motivated drummer into a discipline and dedication – or drive those who are not motivated away. Certainly within the linear context, poly rhythms emerge… and that’s the beauty of music from a drummer’s perspective – everything SINGS. Syncopation is nothing more than knowing where the “1” is within a pattern. Great JOB to all involved in our evolving quest of making great music. I’m sharing this on Facebook as well. Often I get asked “how do you do this?,” or “how do you do that?” Carmine explained the “how!” Its up to the “who” to determine the “when” and “where.” 😉

Was able to see them in Chicago about 18 months ago — It is always such a pleasure to see CA play. Come back to Chicago, dude!!
